PAIA manual

Our manual under the Promotion of Access to Information Act, which sets out what records we hold and how you can ask for access to them.

Last reviewed 27 September 2026

This document is not final

This manual is drafted but not complete. The company details below are outstanding, an Information Officer has to be appointed and registered with the Information Regulator, and the manual needs legal review before it is relied on.

The guide published by the Information Regulator

The Information Regulator has published a guide on how to use PAIA. It is available free of charge from the Regulator, in each official language, at inforegulator.org.za.

Records we hold

  • Enquiry records, including the details a person submitted and the insurers they chose.
  • Consent records, showing which permissions were given or refused, in what words, and when.
  • Unfinished enquiries, where somebody started the form and gave an email address.
  • Published content, including our guides, comparison data, sources and the date each figure was checked.
  • Ordinary business records: company, tax, employment and supplier records.

Records available without a formal request

Everything published on this site is freely available, including our sources and the dates we checked them. If you want your own enquiry record or a copy of the consent you gave, email us and ask. We do not require a PAIA request for your own information and we do not charge for it.

How to make a formal request

  • Use the prescribed form under PAIA, addressed to the Information Officer above.
  • Give enough detail to identify the record, and say in what form you want access.
  • Give us an address or email in South Africa to reply to.
  • If you are requesting on behalf of somebody else, include proof that you may.
  • If the request is for a record needed to exercise or protect a right, say which right.

We will respond within the period the Act allows. If we refuse, we will tell you which provision we relied on and how to take it further.

Fees

Requests for your own personal information are free. For other records the fees prescribed under PAIA apply, and we will tell you what they are before doing the work.
